硬脂醇又名十八(烷)醇，属于长链高碳脂肪醇类。白色片状或颗粒。熔点59.4-59.8℃（凝固点57.95℃），沸点210℃（2kPa）170-171℃（0.266kPa），相对密度0.8124（59/4℃），折光率1.4346（45℃）。溶于醇、苯、氯仿，不溶于水。有微毒性，对眼睛、皮肤有轻微刺激作用，可燃，其粉尘能与空气形成爆炸混合物，主要用途为有机合成原料。
